Project Update
This project is entirely a design process that could lead to three separate construction projects. The design firm is working on three projects along Morgan Creek. Morgan Creek Bridge: This project would involve construction of a pedestrian bridge over Morgan Creek in the vicinity of Bartram Drive. We abandoned a similar project near Ashe Place when flood modeling revealed that the bridge would create a rise in the floodway. We have halted design work on the bridge project until such time as a decision is made to proceed. The Town Manager has sent a letter to UNC officials suggesting that the Town and UNC work together on a collaborative project that would benefit the surrounding neighborhoods and the NC Botanical Garden. Once UNC responds we will develop a new process to evalaute the best course of action. Morgan Creek East: We have submitted 30% drawings to NCDOT for their review. This project is on hold until NCDOT completes a larger pedestrian safety study of the NC 54 corridor. A time for completion of that study is not know. Morgan Creek West: We have completed 30% drawings. We are working with UNC and the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools to identify easements that will be needed to move the project forward. We are in the initial starting phase of FEMA flood modeling.
