Project Update
A public meeting was held in August 2018. The majority of participants voiced concerns about loss of buffer between homes and Fordham Boulevard and pedestrian safety. Some participants suggested that users be routed through the neighborhood in lieu of building a new sidepath. A response to comments was prepared and placed on the project website. An additional meeting was held January 4, 2019. We have identified the need to secure an easement from UNC. Initial contacts with UNC staff have been made. Town staff will draft an easement plat and share with the UNC property office. We will expand our design contract to include additional public meetings and analysis of issues identified by residents. We have requested an additional $400,000 in federal funds from the MPO, which will require a local match of $100,000. We expect to present this request to Council in April or May 2019.
